History

York Supplies was originally established just after World War II in what had been the blacksmiths yard in York Road, Kings Heath. Expanding over the coming years to it’s height in the late 1970′s, employing 15 people, delivering goods all over the country and supplying sub-assembled timber products to a number of local manufacturers.

During the next few years trade declined, in common with many family businesses, in the face of competition from superstore multiple retailers and it was rescued from bankruptcy by the current owners.

Twenty-five years later the business encompasses a thriving winter trade in fuel for the home whilst for summer the site is transformed in to a garden centre. Throughout the year ironmongery and traditional hardware still retain pride of place, with most goods British made and sold loose by knowledgeable staff offering old-fashioned service.

In 2005, York Supplies finally outgrew it’s home and moved 200 yards up the road to the former steering-wheel works in Waterloo Road where there is more space for outdoor display and parking is available for customers and deliveries.
